As Twitter continues its transformation into X, CEO Linda Yaccarino, has confirmed that platform users will soon be able to make audio and video calls without sharing their phone numbers. During an interaction with CNBC, Linda confirmed that users can make calls within the Direct Message (DM) menu.
Additionally, Andrea Conway, a design engineer at X, has shared a picture of the new DM menu featuring an option for making voice and video calls. The video calling option is located in the top right corner of the X’s DM menu, and its appearance resembles that of most platforms.
According to Linda, unlike some platforms, X will not require its users to share their phone numbers to initiate voice or video calls. Furthermore, X will implement certain restrictions to prevent spam calls.

The company is in the final stages of testing its native video and voice calling feature, and it is expected to go live in the next few weeks. As is typical with newly introduced features on X, the company is likely to impose certain restrictions on its non-premium subscribers.
Since Elon Musk acquired Twitter, the platform has undergone numerous transformations, with the most significant being the rebranding from Twitter to X. The platform has introduced features such as articles and long-form videos, and it even enables users to monetise their content, with the platform offering up to 97 per cent of the earned revenue.
Similarly, the platform has implemented various restrictions for non-paying users, including limitations on the number of DMs and the number of tweets per day, claiming to curtail data scraping and prevent system manipulation.
