Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda Sunday demanded strict action in the kidnapping and rape of a minor girl in Rohtak district. He also sought speedy justice to the victim through a fast-track court.
Hooda asked Rohtak MLA BB Batra to extend all possible help to the victim’s family in the case. Batra met the victim, who is admitted in a local hospital there, and also talked to the family members and assured them of all possible help. Hooda alleged that crimes against women are continuously increasing in the state.
The former Chief Minister said: “The National Crime Records Bureau statistics show that four to five rape cases and a dozen kidnapping cases are registered every day in Haryana. In 2021, as many as 1716 rape cases were reported in Haryana. In the case of kidnapping, Haryana is at number three in the whole country.
The government needs to pay special attention to this so that the women of the state can feel safe.” In Rohtak rape case, the police had received a complaint on August 10 this year. As many as three persons, including the hotel manager, have been arrested within 24 hours. According to the police, preliminary investigations based on the CCTV footage and interrogation of the accused have revealed that the main accused is known to the minor girl.
“No evidence has so far been found regarding use of force or violence by the accused during the car journey from the girl’s village to the hotel. Allegations of gang rape also could not be substantiated so far.
Investigation so far, the police said, indicates rape by only one of the accused who was known to the girl. However, the police added, a detailed investigation is being done to collect more evidence in the case and to bring the accused to justice.
