Don’t share details of duties with anyone, flag suspicious calls or accounts soliciting information: Ahead of Independence Day, as well as the upcoming G-20 Summit, the Delhi Police’s Special Branch has issued an advisory to all officers to remain alert, The Indian Express has learnt.
Around 700 police personnel will be stationed outside Red Fort and other areas in North Delhi on August 15. Further, over 10,000 personnel will be deployed on the ground to maintain law and order and regulate traffic across the city.
In order to guard against terrorist organisations/agencies of “hostile neighbouring countries” or anti-national outfits attempting to breach security by impersonation or spoofing, the advisory states: “Impersonation/ Spoofing (can be done) in the name of any senior official… or police department. For this, anti-social elements may make telephone calls to police personnel/ officers or police control room from any inland or international number (by spoofing), social messengers or any other means… They may get information from public vendors/employees, directly or indirectly, who are connected with such arrangements in the same manner as mentioned above… They may stalk social media accounts of police personnel deployed for the arrangements at sensitive points. They may send fake e-mails etc., to get sensitive information.”
The Special Branch provided officers with suggestions to be followed during this time. The order reads that “no information should be shared telephonically or through social media to any unknown individual pretending to be an official from any government agency… without ascertaining and verifying independently the credentials of the person asking/soliciting the sensitive information”.
“The computer systems containing such sensitive information should be protected from any possible cyber-attack. All standard protocols for cyber safety and security should be scrupulously followed…,” it added.
With more than 30,000 visitors expected to attend the Independence Day parade, police said they have stepped up arrangements to match the pre-pandemic situation. Security measures include more than 1,000 cameras, a four-layer security cover, anti-drone systems, facial recognition systems, bomb disposal squads and para-military forces.
