A new version of the PlayStation 5 may be on the way, according to some leaked images and a video. The PS5 Slim, as it is often called, is said to have a slimmer and slightly shorter design, with quite possibly a detachable disc drive.
The PS5 Slim was first spotted in a Chinese forum, where someone posted a photo of the device. Later, an Australian PlayStation repair shop called Better Way Electronics shared a video that showed the plastic case of the possible PS5 Slim. The case has a curved shape, with a bump for the disc drive and two vents on each side. It also has two USB-C ports on the front, instead of the one USB-C and one USB-A port that the current PS5 models have.

The PS5 Slim may be part of Sony’s plan to offer more options for PS5 buyers. Insider Gaming reported last year that Sony was working on a PS5 with a detachable disc drive that would launch in September 2023. The idea is that people can buy the PS5 Slim without the disc drive, and then add it later if they want. This would make the PS5 Slim cheaper than the $399 PS5 Digital Edition and the $499 PS5 with a disc drive.
Sony has also dropped the prices of the PS5 (for a limited time) in some countries, including India, following its announcement about having sold 40 million units of the console since its release last month.
Sony is yet to confirm the existence of the PS5 Slim, but we may find out soon enough if these rumours are true.
